When hiking, the path is ultimately the goal, particularly for circular hiking trails. This Heideblick tour around Siefersheim and Neu-Bamberg leads to breathtaking views and right into the middle of a magnificent heath landscape, the Heidetraum. The combination of cultivated vineyards and unspoilt nature is further enriched by historical and cultural highlights such as the "Ajax Tower" and the view of Neu-Bamberg Castle.

Let’s go!

The access route to the edge of the vineyards begins at the hiking car park “Am Gänsborn” in Siefersheim, Partly lined by old vineyard walls, it goes up to the "Höll", one of the nature reserves of the region.

On the way to the Ajaxturm (Ajax Tower), the scenery varies from cultivated vineyards to pristine areas. After the tower, when approaching Neu-Bamberg, the slopes of Galgenberg and Mühlberg impress with their distinctive mounds of stone.

We come close to such a rock pile before heading down to Neu-Bamberg on an ancient vineyard path. With its historic town center and imposing castle ruins, Neu-Bamberg is well worth a detour. There is also another parking place for hikers here that can be used as another starting point, as well as a connection to the neighboring Hiwweltour Eichelberg.

Continue uphill on the Hiwweltour to a picturesque view of the Neu-Bamberg castle ruins. Then after a shady descent, the path uses the old train route in the Appelbach valley to the Katzensteigermühle.

The ascent to the Mühlberg is an easy walk along idyllic paths culminating at the Eagle Monument with an expansive view of the Neu-Bamberger Heide nature reserve. In the next section we are in the middle of magnificent heathland, heading to the Winzeralm, which not only offers a resting place with “Rheinhessen's Most Beautiful Wine View 2016”, but also serves delicious grape juice on weekends in summer.

After this highlight, the path leads to another panoramic view, then past a few vineyard cottages, and back through a sea of vines to the starting point. The local restaurant “Zur Junkermühle” in Neu-Bamberg (junkermuehle.net) is the ideal place to stop off after the hike.
