Hong Kong: Trade Magazine Sees Strong Demand for Riesling & Co in China
Wine producers from Germany are shifting their focus to the Chinese market after U.S. tariffs impacted exports.
Sales to China have now increased for the second year in a row.
This success is partly due to the popularity of German white wines such as Riesling and red wines like Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) among younger Chinese consumers, but also stems from ongoing, strategic brand-building efforts.
Export Alternative Continues to Grow
“Given the uncertainties in trade with the U.S., many German wineries have started looking further east, with China emerging as an important export alternative,” says Morris Cai, senior reporter at Vino Joy News in Hong Kong.
