Accompanied by loud applause from their fans, they accepted congratulations from Melanie Broyé-Engelkes, Managing Director of the German Wine Institute (DWI). The DWI director expressed her appreciation: "You all delivered a fantastic, professional performance." And with a view to the upcoming election finale, she predicted: "It will be an exciting evening!"

With Levin McKenzie's participation in the final, the chances of a German wine king or wine prince being elected to the trio of the 77th German Wine Majesties are increasing this year.

Professionally strong and personally convincing

The jury of around 70 experts presented the young wine experts with challenging tasks. They had to answer complex technical questions on winemaking, marketing and the professional handling of wine precisely and convincingly, including a task in English.

From spontaneous fermentation to wine culture

The thematic spectrum of the survey ranged from the explanation of spontaneous fermentation and biodynamic viticulture to mandatory information on wine labels and marketing strategies in viticulture. In addition, the candidates positioned themselves on content-related aspects such as the market opportunities for dealcoholised wines, the importance of wine culture or the background to the Vitaevino campaign.

Master Jury attests high level of expertise

The questions were posed by a three-member master jury comprising Karin Eymael, editor-in-chief of the trade journals Weinwirtschaft and Der deutsche Weinbau, Prof. Dr. Hans Reiner Schultz, President of Hochschule Geisenheim University and member of the scientific advisory board of the Institut de Science de la Vigne et du Vin at the University of Bordeaux, and Nicole Tomberg, English trainer and translator in the wine and tourism industry. The jury also attested to the participants' very high level of expertise and great professional presence.

Team spirit

After the expert interview, the participants had the opportunity to demonstrate their teamwork skills and quick reactions in describing and identifying the wines. SWR presenter Holger Wienpahl assisted them with all of their tasks on stage.

Interactive Livestream

Viewers of the livestream could actively participate in the preliminary round through interactive digital games. They will also have the opportunity to participate in the online voting for the new royal trio during the final election next Friday.
