International websites: One system for all markets

26.09.24

End of September, Wines of Germany has launched six new websites for six export markets: Japan, The Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland and the Czech Republic present German wines within the look and feel of international joint marketing.

The German Wine Institute (DWI) has technically modernised its websites deutscheweine.de and winesofgermany.com as well as the database and restructured the content at the end of 2023; now making it onto the shortlist for the Typo3 Award.

Design and structure

The websites of six export markets have now also been given a fresh design and an improved navigation to help target groups find important information and news quickly. As on deutscheweine.de, the appearance is complemented by fine-line visuals and icons – animations and playful elements invite users to explore. Users can access an overview with links to all markets and websites by clicking on the small globe at the top right of deutscheweine.de.

Integration of dynamic content

Technically, the websites are based on dynamic content from the DWI database Symfony, which is combined with static content in the TYPO3 content management system. New content, especially news and images, is only created once centrally in the DWI database and is then available to all languages. Content can be translated with a single click using the Deepl application integrated into the DWI database and can then be edited further.

Synergy effects

"The centralised installation of the systems brings considerable synergy effects on the one hand and creates a globally uniform appearance on the other", Pia Johannson, Head of Online Communication at the DWI, summarises the advantages.

Online manual

In order to provide the (multilingual) editors with an explanatory tool for using the CMS, an integrated, editorially maintainable manual is used. This manual is integrated as a separate client in TYPO3 and is equipped with explanatory chapters on the use of content elements or the API client, among other things. The targeted integration of assigned chapters is particularly useful when editing content in the backend, where, for example, the explanatory paragraph of the current content element can be opened directly in a modal window.

Some of the international pages are still under construction; the content and technical details are still being worked on in many places.

The innovative solution for the deutscheweine.de website, which was developed and implemented together with Xima Media GmbH, has just been nominated for the Typo3 Award 2024 in the field of "Sport and Culture".
