Wines selected for Germany's educative wine-box
The German Wine Institute (DWI) successfully selected typical wines from all 13 quality wine regions for the so called "Germany Box".
Some 173 German wine producers took part in the competition. The winning wines were selected in a blind tasting at the DWI. The jury consisted of top sommelier Justin Leone and the German Wine Professionals Wolfgang Dieckmann, Jasmin Priller, Lukas Sermann and Guido Seyerle.
The wines were judged both on their quality (60 percent of the score) and their representativeness as representatives of the growing region (40 percent of the score). The selection process was accompanied on the DWI's social media channels. (Video)
Typical representatives of all 13 growing regions
The "Germany Box" gives professionals the opportunity to taste typical representatives of all wine-growing regions - side by side - without great effort in order to understand the profile of the respective regions; this trains their own sensory perception. The boxes are recommended to all DWI training participants - an average of 4,000 professionals per year.
The wines are bottled individually in 0.1-litre tasting bottles and treated with a neutral-tasting, odorless and certified harmless inert gas to protect them from oxidation. The company "SommBox/ALPHA from Cologne is responsible for the production of the box, the decanting from standard 0.75 liter bottles into the miniatures and the distribution.
Sales start in February
The 'Germany boxes' are expected to go on sale in February. The boxes will also contain information material on the winning wines, wines of German origin in general and information on the DWI training course "German Wine Professionals" and the DWI's further training opportunities.
