New wine recommendations for German embassies
Germany's Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs (AA) and the German Wine Institute (DWI) selected 19 wines and sparkling wines as a new range of recommendations for the 226 German consulates and embassies abroad in a blind tasting in Berlin. Dr Tobias Lindner, Minister of State, took part in the tasting along with 13 other high-ranking employees from various departments of the Federal Foreign Office.
Diversity from Germany's 13 individual wine regions
In order to do justice to the different circumstances at official occasions such as receptions, banquets or gala dinners in the individual countries around the world, the DWI provides a very wide range of wines as a recommendation for purchases.
61 out of 305 wines made it on the short list
A total of 305 wines were pre-selected after last year's open competition, of which 61 made it into the final. The 16 wines and 3 sparkling wines of different grape varieties, flavors and quality levels from nine wine-growing regions are now available as purchase recommendations in the form of an order list (pdf) for all German agencies abroad.
The German Wine Institute (DWI) has been supporting the Federal Ministery of Foreign Affairs in selecting wines for many years. It is also available to advise employees in the worldwide foreign representations on specific wine issues and offers wine seminars as part of attaché training.
These 19 wines and sparkling wines are part of the current so called Diplomat range:
