New Wine Recommendations for the German Diplomatic Missions

Dr Tobias Lindner, Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office, took part in the selection tasting in person together with other high-ranking employees from various departments of the Federal Foreign Office.

Diversity from the wine country Germany

After an open tender, a total of over 400 wines were proposed for pre-selection, from which the DWI selected the best 40 wines in a blind tasting, which were made available for the final tasting in Berlin. This year's wine selection includes three sparkling wines, seven Rieslings, five white wines from other grape varieties, six red wines and three non-alcoholic sparkling wines. They come from eight different German wine-growing regions and reflect the variety of tastes in Germany.

This year, the DWI has once again taken care to provide foreign representatives with a very wide range of wines as a recommendation for purchasing in order to meet the very different demands placed on wines worldwide. They are used at official events such as receptions or banquets organised by diplomatic missions around the world. The diplomats can select their wine favourites from a prepared order list and order them directly from the companies.

Annual wine seminar

The DWI has been supporting the Federal Foreign Office in the selection of wines for many years. It also advises employees in the foreign missions worldwide on specific wine issues and offers an annual wine seminar as part of the attaché training programme.

Freat appreciation for wineries

For the participating wineries, inclusion in the Foreign Office's list of recommendations means great appreciation of their wines every year, which often also attracts a great deal of media attention.
