Winequeen goes Miami: Short stay, big impact
Germany's Winequeen Anna Zenz and State Secretary Andy Becht (Rheinland-Pfalz, RLP) recently accompanied 16 local winemakers to Miami, Florida. Together, they presented local wines from six of Germany’s 13 wine-growing regions at the VINEXPO AMERICAS trade fair held there.
The Rheinland-Pfalz (RLP) Ministry of Economics, Transport, Agriculture, and Viticulture (MWVLW) had previously invited Anna Zenz, a native of RLP, to serve as an authentic ambassador for German wine at the joint booth of all regions.
Strong Presence from Rheinland-Pfalz
The six wine-growing regions of Rheinland-Pfalz cover an area of nearly 65,000 hectares (ha). This makes RLP the federal state with the most vineyard acreage in Germany. Wineries from the Nahe, Mosel, Ahr, Mittelrhein, Rheinhessen, and Pfalz regions had the opportunity to present themselves at the MWVLW’s joint booth, make new contacts, and strengthen existing relationships.
Networking and Exchange on Site
On the very first evening, Anna Zenz met with representatives from the German Embassy and used the networking event for an in-depth exchange. During the two days of the fair, she accompanied an American importer to the German wine booths and gave him a comprehensive overview of the wine-growing regions of Rhineland-Palatinate. She also provided important insights with a brief speech during a joint dinner with the exhibiting winemakers.
A short stay with a big impact
After about 72 hours, it was already time for Anna Zenz to say goodbye to sunny Florida. “These international assignments are, of course, incredibly exciting and impressive. You get to know many people and other cultures and get a sense of how German wine fits into the local way of life. At the same time, the schedule on site is usually very tight—there’s hardly any room for extended exploration, because the next appointments are already waiting,” she reports,” says Anna Zenz.
As German Wine Queen, Anna Zenz spends around 200 days a year promoting German wine—both nationally and internationally. Her visit to Miami has once again demonstrated how important personal encounters and authentic insights are for bringing the diversity and quality of German wines to life worldwide and for sustainably strengthening new markets.
