German Wine Exports to China reach a new record high
Germany's bottled still wine exports to Mainland China reached 5 million liters (>2L+, excluding sparkling and bulk wine) in the year of 2025. This is an increase of 10 % year‑on‑year in volume. The import value rose to USD 26.50 million (+2.6%).

German export share to China on the rise
In contrast to the positive trend for german wines, according to Chinese customs import data, total wine imports into China decreased by 26.9 % year-on-year to about 207 million liters, with a total import value of USD 1.4 billion (-10.9%).
Sekt: robust demand in higher‑value segments
German sparkling wine showed a mixed picture: while German wine export volume fell to 96,280 liters (–18.54%), the import value rose 8.3 % to USD 569,514. The average import price surged 33 % to USD 5.90 per liter, pointing to robust demand in higher‑value segments.
Promising future for German wines
This is the first time that annual exports of German bottled wine into China have exceeded the 5‑million‑liter mark – a milestone that reflects more than just statistical growth.
Industry observers point to shifting consumer preferences. As wine media outlet WBO notes: “White wine, thanks to its fresh and easy‑drinking profile, is now experiencing off‑season growth, with consumption becoming increasingly part of everyday life.” This trend highlights Chinese consumers’ growing appreciation for German white wines - especially Riesling - which align perfectly with new lifestyle‑driven drinking occasions.
The 2025 breakthrough not only sets a new record but also signals strong momentum and an even more promising future for German wines in the Chinese market.
