After an informative store check programme, a large networking event with wine presentations took place on 18 November. Georg Schmidt, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to South Korea, opened the event and emphasised the importance of wine as a cultural asset that connects nations. Manuela Liebchen (DWI) informed the participants about current trends and developments in the German wine-growing regions. The brief presentation of all producers was followed by individual discussions with over 30 Korean importers - the interest in German white wines and Pinot Noir was consistently positive.

White wine trend in South Korea: Opportunities for German wines

South Korea, the third-largest wine market in Asia, is following the global trend towards white wines. The share is now around 60 per cent. German wines have enjoyed an excellent reputation for years, even if their market share is currently only around one per cent. The discussions showed that German wine producers offer innovative, high-quality wines with potential that could be of interest to both the trade and the catering industry.
The task now is to build on the contacts made and take the next steps.
