A traditional French cask measure of 225 liters (the wine law permits up to 350 liters) that usually refers to fermentation and/or aging in new or relatively new oak casks that influence a wine’s aroma profile (hints of vanilla, tobacco, etc.). Can be declared on the label if at least 75% of a wine was fermented or aged in barrique for at least four months (white wines) or six months (red wines).
