Prädikat wine, a superior quality wine with a protected designation of origin, which must fulfill more stringent quality criteria than Landwein or basic Qualitätswein. A Prädikat, or special attribute, describes the ripeness of the grapes and the type of harvest. The six Prädikats, in ascending order of ripeness and extent of selection, are Kabinett, Spätlese, Auslese, Beerenauslese, Eiswein and Trockenbeerenauslese. More about prädikat categories
